Hole 10 - Ca'canny

PAR 4 4 4
S.I. 8 8 8

Hole 1 overviewThe 10th is a right to left dog-leg played over a pond unusually placed higher than the green. Confidence off the tee is required when driving over the trees on the left corner to place you in position 'A' for the approach to a low set green. Protected on all sides and graded sharply from the back, the 10th green offers a challenging test for wedge and putter.

This Par 5 requires a well struck tee shot to carry the gully. The long hitter can then go for the green but requires a precision shot to the long double tier green over a narrow burn that runs diagonally across the fairway approx 70 yd's short of the green. Many would lay up short and play the hole in three shots and still have a chance for a birdie.

The turn for home to this shortish Par 4 favours the long accurate hitter possibly setting themselves up for an eagle opportunity, but have to take into account the water feature and an array of hazards. The safe approach could be to play the hole as a dog leg aiming the tee shot at the marker (anything too much left could be gathered up by the pond), leaving a short approach shot over the pond to a welcoming green.

A testing par 3, the 13th demands skill with long iron to avoid the numerous gullies and hit the target. The area around the green slopes right to left and contains numerous mounds and cambers and leads to the Bog Burn, it can make a good shot great or leave you playing three off the tee.

A difficult par 4 requiring two well hit shots to reach this green in regulation play. Ideal line for the drive is right of the tree in the fairway, using the hill to bring the ball back to the flatter left side. An accurate second is required to hold onto the shallow, undulating green guarded by a deep gully to the left and rear.

The 15th, Harburn's signature hole, is an excellent test of skill for the short iron. Formed from a natural outcrop of land, the green is protected by gullies front, left and to the rear with mature trees capturing any shot pushed to the right. The green itself leaves a very demanding putt from almost all angles, such is the gradient from back to front left.

Hole 16 - The Gully

"The Gully" is aptly named with a long carry required for the first shot to an undulating fairway. A deep fairway bunker guards the right side of the fairway. Though an eagle opportunity for the long hitter, anything left or short will leave a daunting second to a green well guarded by the Out of Bounds on the left, and a large bunker on the right.

PAR 4 4 4
S.I. 16 16 14

The penultimate hole demands a long drive up onto the fairway plateau some 20ft above the tee where, for the long hitter, a large bunker is waiting. Anything short or right will leave the hardest second shot at Harburn to a long, narrow two tier green. With two deep bunkers either side and a deep channel behind, hitting the green in regulation is a must.

The 18th offers the final challenge at Harburn Golf Club. The ideal line requires driving over a blind spot to hold the left side of the fairway. An accurate second is a must to land on the small green, well guarded by three bunkers and a steep slope at the back. Sweeping undulations from left to right combine to create one of Harburn's toughest putts to finish the round in front of the clubhouse gallery.
