Considering we are in the winter season, it is amazing the activity levels around the club. Renewal of Memberships has stepped up; any member still to renew is asked to do so soonest. Welcome to the new members to the club. We will be running an introduction night and competitions to help you get into the swing and get the best out of your membership. Council is pleased to report the recent H&S Consultant's course assessment showed only some minor actions required. These are being dealt with. Whilst this is good news, all players must play their part in ensuring safety for all. |

Windfarms, those using the club house will have seen the consultation documents. These relate to proposed wind turbine installations in nearby fields. To ensure the impact is minimised, Council has been in discussion with the consultants and currently opposes the plan. Further details on the next page. With some Council members coming to the end of their term, a number of Council vacancies need to be filled. The application form will be posted shortly. Should you be interested in joining Council please contact the office. This year’s big debate; should we cut down the tree on the 14th fairway? If so how should it be replaced? | COUNCIL UPDATES |
The 2012 diaries were inadvertently published with the outdated constitution. The current constitution can be found on the members’ web site. A number of week-end slots have been made available to visiting parties, in the interest of generating additional funds. The slots have been chosen to minimise disruption to competitions and member’s golf. |
| GOLFER'S NEWS |

Windfarm Developments
Members may be aware that there are a number of Windfarm Developments at various stages of feasibility assessment, consultation and planning in the Harburn and surrounding area. There are two proposed developments which would be in the immediate vicinity of the Club:
(1) Harburnhead: where the installed capacity of the proposed wind farm would be up to 66MW comprising 22 turbines with a ground to blade tip height of up to 126 metres. This development would take place at Harburnhead and on ground to the south of the railway line and to the south and west of the boundaries alongside our 5, 6, 7 and 11 holes. A copy of the full “Section 36” application for Harburnhead Wind Farm has been available for viewing in the Club Lounge and copies are also available in West Calder Library and in Tarbrax Village Hall. The consultation period for the application is 13/01/12 to 10/02/12 and any representations to the application should be made by email to The Scottish Government, Energy Consents Unit mailbox at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. not later than 10th February 2012. (2) Pearie Law: the installed capacity of the proposed wind farm would be up to 12MW comprising 6 turbines with a ground to blade tip height of up to 125 metres. The turbines would be set up on land between our 11th green/12 tee and the existing 7 turbine development at Pates Hill which is visible from a number of holes on the course. EDF Energy Renewables have completed scoping and intend to submit their application very soon, most probably sometime in February/March 2012. As this proposal is below 50MW capacity and consequently the application will be to West Lothian Council. The Club Council has attended local presentations of both these proposed developments and has engaged with the developers and other interested parties. While it is very difficult to predict accurately what impact there might be, our concerns are that these developments, if they go ahead, will impact on line of sight visibility of golfers enjoying the facilities and have potential to generate noise which could impact on the tranquil/ remote golfing experience offered at Harburn. We have made these concerns known and will continue to monitor and review these and other proposals as they develop. Members are encouraged to review these proposals and to make their views known on comment sheets provided and to Council members and the planning authorities as appropriate. |
